Start a Club Group or Forum & Collect Membership Dues

Starting a club group or forum requires purpose. The group must stand for something and have an objective. This gives the group a foundation for longevity. Collecting membership dues must be built around a regular activity focused on the group’s purpose.

1. Identify the Type of Club & Purpose with Group Conscience

Identifying an area with group conscience basically means that other people would share a common purpose with the group. Determine the type of club you want to create and its purpose, such as a club for a specific hobby or interest, a club for a specific cause or charity, a or a chess club. Club groups aim at pass time to develop a skill through interaction with others who may have better skills. For this proposal, we would develop a purpose around models and talent. We would call our club group Classies Talent.

“As the industry becomes more competitive, more models and talent lose hope and then exposure. Classies Talent aims to connect models and talent to collaborate at meetups and create content to attract agents.”

The purpose is clear and the hope would be to recruit models and talent to be members of the group.

2. Check the Feasibility of Your Club Group Idea

Browse your contacts and find out who would be interested in your group idea. Search online for similar groups and find out how many members are in the group. When was the group formed? Doing this research would give an idea of how successful your group idea would turn out. Identify the short and long-term resources that would be required to start the group and keep it going. If it turns out the idea might not be so good, it can always be refined instead of changing it. For instance;

“Classies Talent aims to connect models and talent to collaborate online and create content at meetups to attract agents.”

Can you notice how the idea has not changed but the purpose has been refined? If your feasibility analysis looks promising then you might be ready to start your club group.

3. Put it in a Book!

Before rushing to setup your club group, it is a good idea to plan out the group management, procedures and processes. Every group needs a secretary and a treasurer at least. Having a book makes it easy to plan out these needs and those who might be responsible. Identify cost and income areas and how much members might be charged for joining or activity dues. Note the social platform that the group would be active on.

Where would the group meet? When and how often would the group meet? What activities would take place at the meetups?

Once you feel you have spent some significant time in planning. Set a few ground rules for the group and expectations for members conduct.

4. Create the Club Group

When you are ready to create the group, visit the Koware menu in the bottom bar then tap on ‘Create Forum’ or ‘Create Group’. Follow the steps to create your club group or forum.

5. Create Promotional Material for the Group

When the group has been created, it will need a logo to represent the group. Creating digital flyer that can be shared on social platforms and physical flyers that can be distributed through the community. It is good practice to omit the membership fees on the flyers.

6. Publicize & Recruit Members to Join the Group

When publicizing the club group, it is a good idea to approach your contacts and people you know would be interested in the group.

7. Host the First Official Meetup

At the first meeting, executive officer roles must be elected. Groups generally have a chairperson or president, a secretary and a treasurer. Discuss and plan budgets, membership fees, executive officer allowances, group bylaws, meeting locations, meeting frequency, meeting agenda and schedules. Executive meetings must be more frequent that the normal group meetings and the executives must be made aware of this. Take attendance, meeting minutes, pictures and videos that can be shared on the group platform.

8. Communicate!

Keep your group members up to date on club activity. Always send reminders well ahead of time to allow members to prepare. Take interactive feedback to develop the club. When members notice they have a voice in the club, it creates a sense of belonging and motivation to participate in group activities.

Creating a club group with membership dues can also be a running source of regular income based on the work you put in.
